Penny Park / Skate Park

For children, the Penny Park is a wonderful experience and it's one of the reasons people fall in love with Silver City. This park was built by the community and designed by elementary school children. When you visit, you'll realize what a wonderful dream-come-true it is. In addition to great playground areas, there's a performance area, a great picnic area wonderful for birthday parties, & a new, world-class skate park. It'd be difficult to find another town this size with these kinds of accommodations for kids. Overall, the Penny Park is a good representation of a community that cares about it's children, families and even its teenagers.

Silver City Museum

Okay, so maybe you can't really call a museum a "happening place" but it certainly is a good place to go if you're in town. Take a look into Silver City's unique and rich history at the Silver City Museum downtown located in a beautiful, historic building on Broadway near the courthouse. Learn about the Mimbres and Apache Native American tribe who left so many artifacts, or about how the "big ditch" used to be Main Street and the center of town. How did Silver City become so eclectic? Maybe it had something to do with the influence of tuberculosis patients and their families that came here from the east coast during the early 1900's. Ever here of Billy the Kid or Geronimo? They spent some time here too.
